Solution Street, a software engineering firm, was founded by a software developer who envisioned a safe haven for software engineers who wanted to work on interesting, fun projects. Since 2002, we’ve stuck by this principle and as a result, we’ve developed long, lasting relationships with our clients and have a team of great developers who love what they do.
We are proud to support local organizations and ensure our employees and customers benefit from our involvement in industry organizations and events.
Every year, Solution Street selects a charitable organization to support by fundraising through various social events. To date we have raised over $65,000 for the following charities: Make-A-Wish, CureSearch, Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Charity Water, Capital Area Food Bank, Answering the Cry of the Poor, Appalachia Service Project, and Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN).
At Solution Street, your career growth is a priority!
You want to grow and learn and you have goals for your career growth. Solution Street wants the same thing for you! Every employee works with his/her manager to define competencies, personal goals and objectives and outline a path to achieve them. Managers keep these objectives in mind when making project assignments.
You have quarterly goals meetings to review progress and discuss objectives. While Solution Street uses these meetings to discuss your project performance, it is also an opportunity for you to determine your own path to achieve your personal goals, with the help of management.
You are assigned a career manager who provides continuity in your development throughout your career at Solution Street. Because we are founded by software engineers who are still involved in the day to day operations, there is always a mentor to reach out to who is eager to answer questions!
At Solution Street, we believe balance is important to maintain emotional well being.
At Solution Street, project scope is determined by our managing partners and directors who are software engineers, and can accurately estimate timelines. Solution Street employees are dynamic people who have families and activities they are passionate about!
We have a casual, flexible work environment that allows employees to maintain a healthy balance. Even top level management prioritizes family and modifies their schedules to be present at activities outside of work.
At Solution Street we believe continuous feedback leads to growth and meeting goals.
Together, we establish annual goals to set expectations for your current role and monitor your progress against those goals. Personal goals are also defined to help you achieve or exceed custom objectives relevant to your career. We have a defined quarterly goals process where you receive feedback related to both your project performance and your performance relative to your goals.
You have weekly one-on-one meetings with your manager to touch base and talk about your progress and any concerns you may have. Your manager is there to help you be successful!
Solution Street employees are passionate and have a desire to obtain knowledge in new technologies. We encourage and support this!
We offer monthly Tech Talks (brown bags) on the technologies that employees are interested in learning about.
Several times a year, we host local MeetUp events to share knowledge with the community on various technical topics. During COVID-19, we hosted a virtual panel discussion on Serverless Architecture.
Solution Street recently offered a voluntary goals based initiative project where two teams of developers and testers formed to build a new expense application. Team leaders selected a specific technology stack, and then employees were able to join the team that most closely matched the technologies that they identified as growth areas.
At Solution Street, one of our core values is Respect. Trust and autonomy are important to us!
Because Solution Street was founded and continues to be managed by software engineers, there is always access to technical experts to help with any project issues you may face. There is an open door policy at Solution Street, and weekly one-on-one meetings ensure you have time set aside with your manager to walk through any roadblocks you might encounter.
At Solution Street, we have multiple projects across the company, but we are a community of engineers that work together.
At Solution Street, we value all members of our teams; whether Developers, QA, PM, everyone’s feedback is taken into consideration. In fact, one of our core values states: “RESPECT: Everyone should be heard regardless of their position, Everyone has great ideas.”
We have many active projects with different tech stacks, tremendous diversity across industry project types, and we still manage to have a strong TEAM mentality. We work together, and people are always willing to jump in and spend a few hours helping on a different project.
We use tools that facilitate sharing ideas and expertise across all Solution Street projects; whether there is a technical question specific to a project or just a piece of information other Solution Street employees might find useful.
Constant communication is key with both our clients and employees.
At Solution Street, one of our core values is Transparency. This applies to our interactions with both our clients and our employees. We value constant communication so there are no surprises. This keeps our customers happy and up to date on any changes to the project schedule. As a result, 100 percent of our clients would hire us again!
For employees, this means Solution Street communicates the state of the company both informally and at quarterly all-hands meetings. We provide information to employees concerning new projects, those projects coming to a close, as well as targeted business development efforts.
